I’m Dating My Mobile Phone

matchmaking duo

Last night, while out to dinner at a family owned Cajun restaurant, an attractive couple who appeared to be in their mid 30’s sat down at the table next to us. They appeared to be very familiar with each other. The waitress presented them the menus and they proceeded to order. Shortly after ordering, I glance over, and they were both on their mobile phones!! Are you kidding me?! I watched the clock to see how long this was going to last…13 minutes later, they were still texting and surfing away.

My next question to myself was, why didn’t you guys just order take out if you were not going to have a conversation with each other?

Dinner arrived and the food was yummy. I heard them discuss the quality of the food and nothing else. They enjoy their dinner, and next thing you know, the mobile phones were out again. By this point, my food is cold, and I’m shaking my head.

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you are trying to get to know someone, be prepared to give each other your undivided attention. We all understand that you may need to check on a family member or check the score of the game. Here is how we can change this behavior. Excuse yourself ONCE to go to the restroom. While there, check the score, check on your kids, check movie times, and then put the phone away and return.

Another suggestion is to get the permission of your date first. Do you mind if I take this call quickly or send this text? Give your date the common courtesy to know that yes I am interested and I do want to hear more about your week and learn more about you, but I really need to check on mom or dad.

People want to feel noticed and appreciated, and let’s face it, you can’t get to know someone if you don’t talk to each other.
